Angry Chickz, a Nashville-style hot chicken chain with nearly 50 locations nationwide, will open its first Kansas restaurant at 14995 W. 119th St. in Olathe.

The California-based franchise has no locations in Missouri either, making the Olathe store its entry point into the Kansas City market, the Kansas City Star reported Thursday, Sept. 24.

An opening date has not been announced. The Kansas City Star reported that Angry Chickz did not respond to a request for comment.

In a July Facebook post, Angry Chickz announced the Olathe plans, promising the city would "never be the same." The chain specializes in fried chicken tenders served at six heat levels: country (no heat), mild, medium, hot, x-hot and angry. The angry level is coated with Carolina Reaper pepper dust and requires customers to sign a waiver.

The menu splits into classics, bowls and sides. Classics run $10 to $14.49 and come with one or two sliders or tenders on white bread with coleslaw, pickles and fries. Bowls cost $14.49 and feature tenders over rice, mac and cheese, fries or a combination. Sides are $3.89.

Bowls account for about 70% of the chain's sales, Chief Operating Officer Peter Tremblay told Restaurant Business in October 2025.

Founder David Mkhitaryan started Angry Chickz in 2018 out of a 900-square-foot storefront in Los Angeles's East Hollywood neighborhood. Mkhitaryan had worked as a cook at his family's restaurant before developing the recipe, according to the Kansas City Star.

The brand has grown quickly. It posted $56 million in systemwide sales in 2024 and reported same-store sales up 21% in 2025, according to QSR Magazine. The chain opened its first Illinois location in Aurora on Sept. 4 and has signed multi-unit development agreements for Pennsylvania, West Texas and New Mexico.

"I'm very intentional in our growth. I want to build something sustainable instead of trying to be the fastest-growing brand," Mkhitaryan told Food and Beverage Magazine in August.

No local franchisee or operator for the Olathe location has been identified. Residents can follow Angry Chickz on social media for updates on the opening timeline.
