Olathe North quarterback Chase Cain threw five touchdown passes in a 49-7 rout of Shawnee Mission South on Friday, Sept. 18. The Eagles built a 36-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

The win moved Olathe North to 2-1 on the season. Head coach Jason Peete delivered a victory speech to the team afterward, according to Olathe North athletic director Josh Price on X.

Cain went to work early. He connected with Anthony Harris on a 48-yard scoring strike with 10:32 left in the first quarter to put the Eagles up 7-0. On the first play of the second quarter, Cain found senior receiver A'Kobi Bruce for a 38-yard touchdown to make it 14-0.

Bruce caught his second TD of the night on an 8-yard pass from Cain with 6:50 left in the half. Cain then hit Cam Porter for a 55-yard score with 4:19 remaining, pushing the lead to 28-0.

Chase Williams punched in a 3-yard rushing touchdown before halftime. Zavian Rodriguez converted the two-point rush, and the Eagles took a 36-0 lead into the break.

Cain kept firing in the third quarter, connecting with senior Jayson Rush on a 36-yard touchdown pass with 7:43 left to extend the margin to 43-0. The Kansas City Star reported that senior JuJu Wyatt also scored on a diving touchdown in the blowout.

Shawnee Mission South's lone score came in the fourth quarter to set the 49-7 final. The 42-point margin was the Eagles' largest of the season.

The performance capped a strong stretch for Peete's squad. Through three games, senior Jayson Rush leads the team with 87.5 receiving yards per game, while senior Madden Crum anchors the defense with 7.5 tackles per game and senior Josiah Roland has three interceptions, according to MaxPreps.

The Eagles opened the season with a 42-28 loss to Shawnee Mission East on Sept. 3 before bouncing back with a 28-21 win over Blue Valley North on Sept. 11.

Olathe North travels to Shawnee Mission Northwest on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m.
