De Soto residents who missed the Fourth of July fireworks will get a second chance Sept. 4 when the city launches its rescheduled show during the De Soto Days festival.
The city of De Soto is partnering with the De Soto Days Committee to fold the postponed fireworks into the annual Labor Day weekend celebration. The display is scheduled for 9 p.m., according to the city's newsflash posted Aug. 26.
Fireworks will launch from Riverfest Park, but the park itself will be closed to spectators during the show.
The city directed residents to watch from the De Soto Days festival grounds downtown instead, stating that downtown "is the place to be" and urging spectators to "find your spot at De Soto Days and look up." Residents should plan accordingly, as no viewing access will be available at the launch site itself.
The three-day De Soto Days festival runs Sept. 3 through Sept. 5. The De Soto Days Committee manages the event, with full details available at desotodays.com. The festival draws the community together each Labor Day weekend with a parade, activities and entertainment spread across the long weekend.
Saturday's parade kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with the theme "Americana: Preserving the Past and Embracing the Future." The city said the Americana-themed parade weekend aligned well with the rescheduled fireworks display.
The original Fourth of July show was postponed earlier this summer. The city's announcement did not specify the reason for the postponement.
Residents looking for the best view should arrive early to the festival area and scout a clear sightline toward Riverfest Park. The city did not identify specific recommended viewing locations beyond the festival grounds.
