De Soto city crews began milling and repaving three road segments on Tuesday, Sept. 22, as part of the city's 2026 In-House Asphalt Program.
The work covers about 3,670 feet of roadway across two streets. Residents on Waverly Road and Kickapoo Street should expect single-lane closures and flaggers directing traffic through mid-October, weather permitting.
The three segments, according to the city's project announcement, are:
- Waverly Road south, from south of W. 95th St. to W. 99th St.: a 2-inch asphalt overlay covering about 1,300 feet.
- Waverly Road north, from W. 89th St. south to Explorers Trail: a 3-inch overlay covering about 1,330 feet.
- Kickapoo Street, from W. 83rd St. north to the end of Kickapoo: a 3-inch overlay covering about 1,040 feet.
Crews started on the south section of Waverly Road on Tuesday. They will work north on Waverly before moving to Kickapoo Street. Each segment is paved one lane at a time, with flaggers on site to direct traffic through the work zone.
The city said drivers may experience short delays but that access to homes and properties will be maintained wherever possible. No full road closures are planned.
The program uses De Soto's own Street Department crews rather than outside contractors. The department has handled similar work in recent years. In 2025, city crews completed asphalt overlays on Cherokee Street into Istas Drive, W. 95th Street and Corliss Road, according to the city's construction projects page.
The 2026 program is the latest round of that annual maintenance effort, targeting roads selected based on pavement condition.
