Lenexa residents can drop off leftover pumpkins starting Nov. 1 at Little Mill Creek Park, part of the city's seasonal holiday decoration recycling program.

Lenexa Parks & Recreation announced the program on the city's website, which runs through January and accepts pumpkins, natural Christmas trees, wreaths and garlands. The department composts the material and uses it to maintain city gardens and landscaping.

Pumpkin drop-off: Nov. 1–30

A marked dumpster will sit in the Little Mill Creek Park parking lot at 79th Street and Cottonwood through the end of November. Residents can drop off pumpkins anytime during that window.

Christmas tree and greenery drop-off: Dec. 26–Jan. 11

The same parking lot reopens for natural evergreen trees, wreaths and garlands from Saturday, Dec. 26, 2026, through Sunday, Jan. 10, 2027. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The city asks residents to strip all lights, ornaments, tinsel and stands before dropping off greenery.

Curbside Christmas tree pickup

Residents who prefer not to haul a tree can schedule a curbside pickup through Scouts BSA Troop 186. The troop will collect trees on Saturday, Jan. 2, Sunday, Jan. 3, Saturday, Jan. 9, and Sunday, Jan. 10, 2027. Trees must be at the curb by 9 a.m. on the scheduled day. A $10 donation is requested.

Pickups can be scheduled at Recycle.Troop186.org. The troop's 2025 listing on RecycleSpot.org noted the service was for Lenexa residents only, and only natural trees and greenery were accepted.
