Five Olathe-area football teams won Friday, Sept. 18, with Spring Hill staying unbeaten at 3-0 and Gardner Edgerton's Manny Mulwa delivering a five-touchdown performance.
The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) posted its Week 3 football rankings Sunday, Sept. 20. The specific class-by-class positions were not available for confirmation. Here's how area teams fared in Week 3.
Gardner Edgerton 35, Lawrence Free State 14
Junior running back Manny Mulwa carried 42 times for 287 yards and scored all five Trailblazer touchdowns as Gardner Edgerton won at Lawrence Free State. His scoring runs covered 8, 9, 12, 19 and 10 yards, according to the Lawrence Journal-World.
Gardner Edgerton's rushing offense totaled 323 yards and controlled the ball for more than 30 minutes.
"Their offensive line was playing with great pad level, and our guys were standing up, and that's why we got beat," Free State head coach Kevin Stewart told the Lawrence Journal-World.
The win moved the Trailblazers to 2-1 after a Week 2 loss to Hays. Gardner Edgerton entered the week ranked No. 15 statewide by On3 and No. 13 in the MaxPreps computer rankings.
Olathe North 49, Shawnee Mission South 7
Olathe North improved to 2-1 with a dominant win over Shawnee Mission South. Sophomore quarterback Chase Cain threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Cam Porter in the second quarter and a 36-yard scoring strike to Jayson Rush in the third, when the Eagles already led 43-0.
JuJu Wyatt added a 7-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.
Olathe North athletic director Josh Price wrote on X that head coach Jason Peete delivered a victory speech to the team after the final whistle. Through two games entering Week 3, Cain ranked seventh in Kansas in passing yards with 482, according to MaxPreps.
Spring Hill stays perfect at 3-0
Spring Hill beat Leavenworth 49-6 to remain undefeated. The Broncos have outscored opponents 158-34 through three weeks, following a 48-14 win over Lansing and a 60-14 rout of Turner. Spring Hill entered the week ranked No. 18 statewide by On3.
Other Olathe-area results
Olathe Northwest edged Olathe West 42-35 in a high-scoring rivalry game. Olathe South topped Olathe East 27-14, according to Kansas City Star scoreboards.
