A deck fire at 1429 S. Tomahawk Lane in Olathe sent two women to the hospital Aug. 30.

The Olathe Fire Department said the call came in around 7 p.m. near Pawnee Drive and Tomahawk Lane. Two people were transported to an area hospital in stable condition, and two others were checked at the scene, the department said in a statement on X.

Family members helped one of the women out of the house before firefighters arrived, news stringer Mike Frizzell reported on X. Both women had non-life-threatening injuries.

Discarded smoking materials appear to be the fire's cause, the Olathe Fire Department said in a follow-up post. The department described the blaze as a small deck fire.

The Olathe Police Department and Johnson County Med-Act also responded. The American Red Cross is assisting a family of five who are temporarily displaced.
