Bailey Throssell, a University of Central Missouri senior and 2023 Olathe North High School graduate, died Aug. 28 at an off-campus residence in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Officers responded at 1:55 p.m. to the 900 block of South Holden Street after a roommate reported Throssell was in cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The block includes two private residences and the fraternity house for UCM's chapter of Alpha Kappa Lambda (AKL), of which Throssell was a member.

Throssell, from Overland Park, was a sport management major. His ties to the Olathe and Lenexa communities ran deep. At Olathe North, he competed in swimming and diving, belonged to the school's Geoscience Academy and was second runner-up in Mr. Eagle, an annual school fashion show.

This past summer, he interned with the City of Lenexa's Parks and Recreation Department, working on event coordination, recreation programming and community engagement.

Lenexa City Manager Beccy Yocham issued a statement Aug. 31, saying the city was deeply saddened by the loss and that its thoughts were with Throssell's family and friends.

Jeremy Slivinski, executive director and CEO of Alpha Kappa Lambda, said in a statement to the Star on Monday that the chapter was grieving and keeping Throssell's family in its thoughts.

Fraternity brother Jace Thomas mourned Throssell in a Facebook post Aug. 30.

Jace Thomas: "Bailey was the most happy down to earth being you could ever meet. We were best friends all throughout college, joined the same fraternity together, did everything together after we met."

UCM posted a statement on social media the night of Aug. 29, as Fox 4 Kansas City reported, extending sympathies to Throssell's family, friends and classmates. The university said counseling and support services would be available for students.

The Warrensburg Police Department said Aug. 31 that the investigation was ongoing. No further details or timeline for updates have been announced.
