The Olathe Northwest Ravens beat crosstown rival Olathe West 42-35 on Friday, Sept. 18, in a Sunflower League game at CBAC.

The win moved the Ravens to 2-1 on the season. The Owls dropped to 1-2.

Both teams entered the matchup coming off Week 2 losses. Olathe Northwest fell 40-34 to Blue Valley Northwest on Thursday, Sept. 10. Olathe West lost 38-14 to Blue Valley that same week, according to Kansas City Star scoreboards. Each squad needed a bounce-back win to stay on track in league play.

Before kickoff, the ONW Ravens Athletics account posted on X that the rivalry matchup carried extra meaning, billing the 7 p.m. contest at CBAC as rivalry time. The two schools share a district in USD 233 and sit in the same city, making every head-to-head meeting a neighborhood affair.

The 77 combined points made it the highest-scoring game of the young season for either program. Olathe Northwest opened the year with a 27-0 shutout of Olathe South on Sept. 4. Olathe West opened with a 52-14 win over Shawnee Mission South that same week, according to Kansas City Star scoreboards. The Sunflower League confirmed the Week 3 final on X, and the Kansas City Star's Week 3 scoreboard also listed the result.

The rivalry matchup featured college-bound talent on both sidelines. Olathe Northwest lineman Jake Ruggles, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound Class of 2027 prospect, committed to the University of Sioux Falls on July 13, according to JoCo Today. Olathe West linebacker Cash Warren, listed at 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds in the same graduating class, committed to Northwest Missouri State University on July 20, JoCo Today reported.
