Olathe South beat Olathe East 27-14 on Friday, Sept. 18, earning the Falcons their first victory of the 2026 season in a crosstown rivalry game.

Both teams entered the night winless at 0-2. The Falcons had fallen to Olathe Northwest 27-0 on Sept. 4 and to Washburn Rural 21-7 on Sept. 11, according to Kansas City Star scoreboards. The Hawks had lost to Shawnee Mission North 24-6 on Sept. 3 and to Staley 21-8 on Sept. 11.

Friday's game was lopsided from the start. Olathe South controlled the first half, leading 7-0 after the first quarter and stretching the advantage to 20-0 by halftime, according to live score updates posted on X by Olathe South's athletic director.

The Falcons scored 13 unanswered points in the second quarter alone. Olathe East's offense could not find the end zone through the first two periods.

The Hawks showed life after the break. Olathe East cut the deficit to 20-7 by the end of the third quarter and scored again in the fourth to pull within 27-14. The Falcons answered with a touchdown of their own in the final period to keep the Hawks at arm's length.

The rally was not enough. The Kansas City Star's Friday scoreboard listed the final at 27-14. The Olathe East Athletics account confirmed the result on X, noting the Hawks fell to the Falcons by that same margin.

The win moved Olathe South to 1-2 on the season. Olathe East dropped to 0-3.

The crosstown matchup between the two programs has been played annually since at least 2021, according to Olathe East football program notes. Friday's result gave the Falcons a needed boost after two straight losses to open the year.

Week 4 opponents for both teams had not been posted as of Sunday, Sept. 20.
