De Soto families can trick-or-treat through a forest trail, grab free hamburgers and jump in bounce houses at Riverfest Park on Oct. 17.
The city of De Soto is putting on "Halloween at the 'Fest" from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and admission is free, according to a city announcement. The event lineup includes a forest trick-or-treat trail, face painting, a pumpkin patch, bounce houses, games, crafts and a fall-themed selfie station.
Free hamburgers and hot dogs will be served.
The city said it is still looking for local businesses, organizations and individuals willing to host stations along the forest trail. Volunteers would set up and decorate a table or area, bring candy and hand it out to trick-or-treaters as they walk the wooded path. The city's announcement describes the trail as drawing hundreds of costumed kids each year. Those interested in hosting a station can find a sign-up form on the city's event page.
The volunteer ask gives De Soto businesses and community groups a chance to put their name in front of families at one of the city's bigger fall gatherings. Each station host picks their own theme and decorations, the city said.
De Soto's Comprehensive Plan 2057 team will also have a station at the event, according to a separate city notice. The Comprehensive Plan 2057 is the city's long-range planning update, which will guide land use, transportation and growth decisions in De Soto through 2057. Residents who stop by the station can learn about the project and share input on the city's future direction.
A follow-up public workshop for the comprehensive plan is scheduled for Oct. 21 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the De Soto Senior Center.
No prior-year attendance figures for Halloween at the 'Fest have been published by the city.
