Angela M. Carter, 52, of Olathe died Monday after her SUV left a highway ramp and crashed near the 75th Street interchange in Johnson County.

Carter was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Suburban northbound on the I-35 exit ramp to 75th Street about 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash log. The vehicle veered left and struck a guardrail about 200 feet south of 75th Street. The Suburban then continued across the intersection, hit several raised medians and came to rest in a ditch on the northeast side.

Carter was pronounced dead at the scene, the Johnson County Post reported. Her body was transported to the Johnson County Medical Examiner's office. The KHP crash log classifies the case as a fatality investigation under case number KHP26OFF013424.

She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the KHP. The crash was not a hit-and-run and did not involve a police pursuit.

KMBC reported the fatal crash Monday. Overland Park firefighters, Johnson County Med-Act paramedics and officers from Overland Park and Merriam police departments responded to the scene, according to the Johnson County Post.

Recorded radio traffic from responding units suggested Carter's condition may have been a medical emergency rather than a trauma caused by the crash, the Johnson County Post reported. The KHP crash log does not mention a possible medical emergency, and the patrol has not publicly addressed the question. The cause of the crash has not been officially determined.

Troopers closed the entrance ramp to northbound I-35 from 75th Street during the investigation. The ramp reopened before 1 p.m.

KHP troopers notified Carter's next of kin at 11:53 a.m. Monday.
