Keil Hileman, the former USD 232 teacher convicted of sex crimes against students, is back in prison after violating his parole by possessing pornography.

Hileman was incarcerated at Lansing Correctional Facility on Aug. 5 after pornography was discovered on his computer, Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) spokesperson David Thompson told the Johnson County Post. A warrant for Hileman's arrest was issued in July, Thompson said.

The specific nature of the material was not disclosed, but it violated the terms of his parole agreement, according to Thompson.

His earliest possible release date is Oct. 24, according to KDOC records cited by the Post.

Convicted of crimes against students

Hileman taught in USD 232 for nearly 30 years, including at Monticello Trails Middle School. He was charged in Johnson County District Court in October 2022 with six counts of unlawful sexual relations. Court records show the alleged crimes occurred between June 2017 and October 2022 and involved at least two victims.

He reached a plea agreement that amended two charges to lesser felonies of attempted unlawful sexual relations. The remaining four counts were dismissed.

A Johnson County judge sentenced him on Nov. 8, 2024, to 24 months in prison. He was released on parole on Jan. 16 to reside in De Soto.

Less than seven months later, he was back in custody.

Two lawsuits still pending against USD 232

Two of Hileman's victims have filed separate civil lawsuits against USD 232 in Johnson County District Court, one on Dec. 5, 2025, and the other on Feb. 11. Both allege the district failed to protect students despite numerous warning signs, the Johnson County Post reported in February.

The lawsuits allege Hileman created an isolated classroom environment by covering windows, locking the door and disabling the phone and intercom system. Both suits claim the district knew of or had reason to know about his patterns of behavior with students, according to court filings.

In a December filing responding to the earlier lawsuit, USD 232 denied the allegations.

Michelle Marvel, the attorney representing both victims, called the news of Hileman's parole violation "deeply upsetting," the Johnson County Post reported.

Each lawsuit seeks $75,000 in compensatory damages and a jury trial. One case is scheduled for a five-day jury trial beginning Sept. 13, 2027. The other has a case management hearing set for Nov. 5.
