A 15-year-old boy on a bicycle was found under a pickup truck after being struck in a crosswalk at 135th Street and Blackfoot Drive in Olathe on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

The crash happened at about 7:15 p.m. as the teen crossed 135th Street from south to north, the Johnson County Post reported. The truck was turning right from southbound Blackfoot Drive onto westbound 135th Street, according to Maj. Joe Sudduth, an Olathe Police Department spokesperson.

Olathe firefighters and Johnson County Med-Act paramedics found the teen underneath the vehicle. He was transported to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Sudduth told the Post the teenager's injuries are non-life-threatening.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. A Post reporter observed the driver participating in field sobriety testing and consenting to a blood draw for toxicological analysis.

Police did not arrest or cite the driver at the scene. Sudduth said the investigation by the department's Traffic Safety Unit is ongoing.

Westbound lanes of 135th Street were closed for about two and a half hours during the on-scene investigation.
