Johnson County voters have cast 92,646 ballots through seven days of early voting ahead of the Nov. 3 general election, the Johnson County Election Office reported.

The total includes 77,937 early in-person votes and 14,709 mail ballots, KCTV5 reported. That represents about 19.4% turnout among the county's 477,848 registered voters as of Saturday, Oct. 24.

The pace is well ahead of the 2022 midterm. At the same point in that cycle, the Election Office counted roughly 46,300 early in-person ballots. The 2026 number still trails the 2024 presidential election, when 104,214 voters had cast early in-person ballots by day seven, according to the Election Office.

Johnson County Election Commissioner Connie Schmidt said in KCTV5 coverage published Oct. 19 that the office was comparing turnout to the 2024 presidential election despite this being a non-presidential year. "It's crazy. It's like this all across the county in all 12 of our locations," Schmidt said.

The county's registered-voter rolls have also grown, reaching about 475,000 in early October compared with 463,000 at the same point in the 2022 midterm cycle, according to KCTV5 reporting on county data.

Mail ballot warning

The Election Office is urging mail voters not to drop their ballots in the mail at this point. Of 33,754 mail ballots sent out, just 43.58% had been returned as of Saturday, according to the office. Time is short.

Voters can return mail ballots in person at any early voting site during voting hours, at any Election Day polling place or at a 24-hour drop box by close of polls on Election Day.
