Former Olathe North quarterback Jamison Sarver threw for 390 yards and two touchdowns Saturday, Oct. 3, as No. 10 Emporia State beat Missouri Western 34-22 to stay unbeaten.

The win at Welch Stadium in Emporia pushed the Hornets to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play. It marks the program's first 5-0 start since 2015, Yahoo Sports reported.

Sarver completed 32 of 49 passes with zero interceptions. His scoring strikes went to Ondraye Beasley on a 45-yard connection and Malik O'Atis from 3 yards out, according to the official box score. His longest completion covered 53 yards. Running back Camden Crooks added 83 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

Sarver attended Olathe North, where he earned Honorable Mention Class 6A All-State honors for the Eagles. As a senior at Olathe North, he threw for 1,481 yards and 17 touchdowns while adding 554 rushing yards and four scores, according to Emporia State, according to his Emporia State roster page. Now in his second season with the Hornets, Sarver started the final four games as a true freshman in 2025 and won MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week after his first career start.

Missouri Western quarterback Isaiah Tate kept the Griffons competitive with 494 yards passing on 28-of-55 attempts, two touchdowns and two interceptions, The Kansas City Star reported. Missouri Western is 2-3.

Emporia State travels to Missouri Southern in Joplin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

MNU holds off Central Methodist rally in Olathe

MidAmerica Nazarene built a 27-0 lead Saturday, Oct. 3, and nearly gave it all back before escaping with a 29-24 win over Central Methodist at Copeland Athletic Complex.

The Pioneers' home victory was their first Heart South Conference game of the season. It improved MNU to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Receiver Isaiah Coppage carried the MNU offense with five catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Defensive back Deon Burtin provided the defensive highlight, intercepting a Central Methodist pass and returning it 43 yards for a score that stretched the lead to 20-0, the Star reported.

Central Methodist stormed back in the second half, cutting the deficit to five points before the final whistle.

MNU hosts Missouri Baptist at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Copeland Athletic Complex for Homecoming.
