The Olathe Northwest Lady Ravens tennis team won its fourth consecutive Class 6A regional championship, sending all six players to the state tournament in Wichita beginning Friday, Oct. 16.
The Lady Ravens clinched the title at the Blue Valley North 6A regional, held in Olathe on Friday, Oct. 9. ONW Ravens Athletics & Activities announced the four-peat on X on Sunday, Oct. 11, confirming all six regional entrants qualified for state.
The run continues a stretch of dominance for a program that became the first Olathe tennis team to win a state championship in 2024, according to the Raven Network student media outlet. The Lady Ravens repeated as state champions in 2025 despite losing four of their top six players from the prior year. They went undefeated across every varsity tournament.
At the regional, singles player Seraphine Besong rolled past Free State's Faith Hansen 6-0, 6-0 in the third round, the Lawrence Journal-World reported. Ada Smith advanced to the semifinal before falling to Free State's Eli Ward, the eventual regional singles champion, in straight sets.
Weather disruptions forced shortened practices and tournament cancellations throughout the fall. Junior Amelia Spencer described the challenge in a Sept. 25 interview with the Raven Network: "Obviously it's hard, we're constantly in the black and in the red and only practice an hour if any."
Senior Charlotte Hull told the Raven Network the same day that extended warmups before matches helped her compensate for lost practice time.
The Lady Ravens also swept the Olathe City Championship earlier this season. All four singles players (Besong, Smith, Lillian Sobczyk and Avery Bergman) went 4-0, and every doubles pair finished undefeated.
The KSHSAA Class 6A State Tennis Championships begin Friday, Oct. 16, at the Riverside Tennis Complex in Wichita, with the tournament wrapping up Saturday, Oct. 17.
