The Olathe Fire Department will open its fire academy to the public Saturday, Oct. 3, for the department's annual open house.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Olathe Fire Academy, 910 N. Hedge Lane.

Capt. Mike Hall told The Olathe Reporter the open house gives residents a firsthand look at many aspects of the fire department in a welcoming environment.

"It's really about showing the human side of the fire department outside of an emergency incident," Hall said. "Like our community, we're just people too."
