The Pet Ranch asked the Olathe Planning Commission on Monday, Sept. 28, for a 10-year permit renewal at its 151st Street location near Johnson County Executive Airport.

The boarding facility opened in 2008 and can house up to 142 pets, the Olathe Reporter first reported. It wants to keep its hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The Pet Ranch is also seeking approval to add outdoor patios to 13 rooms on the airport-facing side of the building so dogs can go outside in good weather. The representative wrote that they were "not opposed to planting more trees or adjusting some lighting" if it kept staff and the property safe, but said the concerns "seem unrelated to our outdoor use request."

Some neighbors raised noise concerns and asked for more trees. The representative said those issues "seem unrelated to our outdoor use request."

City staff recommended approval and that the permit would not require the new landscaping, noting the business meets current code. The commission's vote was not available as of publication. If approved, the Olathe City Council would give final approval at a future meeting.
